A responsible approach to block management

Michael Laurie Magar is committed, as far as is practically and reasonably possible, to working in partnership with our clients, their tenants and suppliers to ensure the developments we manage are sustainable.

We use existing good practice and trial new initiatives to make sure that our management policies and procedures deliver the most efficient and responsible schemes possible.

MLM won the Corporate Social Responsibility firm of the year award in the 2018 ARMA ACE awards in recognition of our efforts. 

Energy efficiency

We work hard to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon footprint by ensuring that where improvements are necessary, we explore cost-efficient and viable options. These include improved double glazing, use of more efficient plant and appliances, better cavity wall insulation and the installation of energy-efficient lighting.

We encourage tenants and suppliers to consider their impact on the environment by promoting shared car usage and communal garden spaces.

Recycling

Where possible we promote both water and waste recycling by installing water storage systems and encouraging their use by tenants. We also ensure that where space allows, sufficient waste recycling bins are available for use by tenants and that all tenants are informed about the specific recycling policies applied by the local council.

Contractor Selection

We endeavour to use local contractors. This not only helps to reduce carbon emissions by reducing travel times and distances, it also helps the local economy. Our contractors are always encouraged to use products and materials that are non-toxic, and which pose no threat to the environment.

Social Sustainability

We know that sustainability isn’t just about being green. It’s also about making sure the premises we manage are great places to live. Our on-site staff are given training to enable them to deliver first-class customer service and we facilitate meetings between lessees and tenants to ensures everyone can contribute to the improvement of the building and its environment.

Charitable Pursuits

We strongly believe in doing our bit and raising money for a variety of charities each year.

Over the past few years, MLM have raised money through a variety of fun activities for the following charities:

  • Halloween activities supporting Breast Cancer Awareness
  • Wear a Christmas Jumper Day supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and Save the Children charities
  • Football Shirt Friday in aid of The Bobby Moore Fund and Cancer Research
  • Cupcake Day in aid of Alzheimer’s Research
  • Macmillan Coffee Morning supporting Macmillan Care
  • Charity Cricket Day
