How to avoid the rogues – choosing the right agent for you

4 March 2014

Over the years here has been a lot of negative media coverage about poor Management service, high service charges and management fees and clients being left vulnerable and exposed to potential liabilities.

There is an increasing demand on the Block Management industry as a whole to raise its standards and the Office of Fair Trading is now set to investigate the industry further.

Whilst there is a lot of negative press about the Leasehold property management sector, there are a number of reputable and qualified agents who are professional and regulated who employ experienced staff – without charging the earth!

When being invited to provide a Management Proposal we are often asked a number of questions about our company, its employees and our management policies.  But equally, there are times we are asked worryingly little.

If you are considering changing your agents, what should you be looking for?  What should you need to know before making an informed choice to look after your most valuable asset – your home.

This is not an exhaustive list but an example of some of the things you may wish to consider and ask when reviewing or selecting a new managing agent.

Provide a general overview of the development (if no formal meeting is undertaken on site in the first instance) and request a face to face meeting.

Ask to meet the Manager to be appointed to manage your block.

Select an agent you feel confident with and who you can work with.

If you would like to consider switching to MLM, please contact Kelly Fox, Business Development & Marketing Manager or who would be pleased to speak with you.
